Renting golf carts to enjoy your vacation or for an alternative transportation method instead of a car, is becoming a very popular option for people who come to Playas del Coco Beach. When you get into town from the Liberia International Airport or the San Jose International Airport, as you come down the main road to the beach, you will see a few companies that provide rentals. We will list the contact information for these rental companies below, but do note that some of them do not have websites and must only be contacted in person on the ground when you arrive at the beach. You can use the companies listed below to do research and get pricing to better bargain for the right budget during your vacation.

The great thing about the pace of life in Plays del Coco is that using a golf cart rental is much better then driving, and of course less expensive and better for the environment. Many expats and even local Ticos use them when they are out on the town for dinner or drinks with friends, or on the way to the pool or tennis club.

Due to the relative small condensed size of this tourist area of Costa Rica, you can get from one end to the other of the beach easily and without running out of battery, generally spending the entire day enjoying the golf cart experience.

The average golf cart cost for a full battery recharge at your home or condo is around $2, which will get you a distance of 150 kilometers or so, after a full night of battery charging. This of course makes way more sense then driving a gas guzzler car or truck every day at the beach. Just walk out of your home or condo and hop into your golf cart, and you are on your way to enjoy the sandy beaches and sunshine.

Remember though, that Plays del Coco has a seawall for walking along the beach, but the golf carts are not allowed on the sea wall walkway and you will get a fine for driving them there, not to mention they are dangerous for the children who play near by. The local police station is right on the beach as well, so you have a high likelihood of getting caught if you decide to drive on the seawall.

In Costa Rica a golf cart can be legally driven on the road with a license plate, which comes on each rental, and you must have a valid drivers license to legally operate them. You can bring your drivers license from your country of origin, they are valid for 90 days while in Costa Rica on your vacation. While we do no suggest you operate your golf cart without a drivers license, many people have done this without a problem.
