The list of celebrities who visit Costa Rica is growing, but they mostly seem intent on spending their time on the beach or in secluded locations far away from the telescopic lenses of the pesky paparazzi. Reports of celebrities spending time in the Central Valley are rare, which is why unexpected visits by Chris Hemsworth to restaurants in Escazu and Santa Ana are making the news.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is well-known for his acting role as Thor in the Marvel Film Universe, and he is also known for his penchant for vacationing in Costa Rica. In the past, and together with his brother Liam (who is also a well-known Hollywood film actor) Chris has enjoyed time off his filming schedule by visiting the beaches of our Pacific beaches more than once. In fact, both Chris and Liam accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge while in Costa Rica.

Over the last few days, Mr. Hemsworth has been spotted at a couple of fine restaurants in the Central Valley.

According to reports by online daily Costa Rica Hoy, Mr. Hemsworth popped in at the Novillo Alegre (Happy Calf) restaurant in Escazu, where he enjoyed 500 grams of choice steak. According to waiter Carlos Hernandez, Mr. Hemsworth arrived accompanied by a very attractive female companion and a local doctor. He was wearing shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops, and he asked for a discreet table near the terrace. By the time he was finished eating, everyone in the restaurant knew that they were dining in the presence of the actor who is famous for his portrayal of a Norse god. As expected, multiple requests for photos and autographs ensued, to which Mr. Hemwsworth reacted with charisma and patience.

Happy Birthday!

Later on that same Sunday, Mr. Hemsworth was spotted at the Andiamo La (Let’s Go There) Italian restaurant in Santa Ana, which is located near the upscale Lindora neighborhood. Mr. Hemsworth was in the company of friends, and he blew belated candles for his belated August 11th candles.

Mr. Hemsworth’s visit to some of our Central Valley restaurants in Costa Rica is very timely. As previously reported by The Costa Rica Star, the gastronomical scene in San Jose and across the country has vastly improved in the 21st century. When international tourism really took off in the late 1980s, a common complaint among visitors used to be “What’s with the food?” This was especially true in the Central Valley, where tourists could only hope for something more than a soda (cafeteria) that served more than fried ground beef patties smothered in shredded cabbage, mayonnaise and ketchup.

Other celebrity visits we have previously reported on include:

Beyonce and Jay-Z

Matt Damon

Miley Cyrus with her ex, Liam Hemsworth

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Pink
