It took more than two officers from Fuerza Publica, the national police force of Costa Rica, to take down a naked man who -for some reason- was chanting one of the many names of the chief spirit of evil and adversary of God; tempter of mankind; master of Hell, at least in the Judeo-Christian and Islamic faiths.

According to a news report filed by metro reporter Manuel Estrada of daily tabloid Diario Extra, the incident occurred on Wednesday, around 8:35 in the morning, a time when many people in Costa Rica are commuting to their respective workplaces and classrooms. According to witnesses, they were surprised by the sight of a young man, who was naked, heavily tattooed, and barefoot.

The man reportedly ran down a busy street, weaving in and out of the vehicles trying to inch their way through morning rush hour traffic in Costa Rica. Some passerby tried to stop the unclothed man, but he proved to be combative and quite strong. The situation unfolded in the northern section of downtown San Jose, not far from the Tibas bus stops.

Two Fuerza Publica officers who arrived on scene had to call for backup to restrain the man, who tried to bite one of the officers in the leg. According to a 60-year old bus passenger who witnessed the incident, each time the officers got a hold of the bare suspect, he began to squirm, twist, turn, strike and invoke the name of Satan in a gravelly voice.

Other witnesses mentioned that the man appeared to be under the influence of a substance similar to phencyclidine hydrochloride (PCP), also known as angel dust. At least one witness was afraid that the man may have been possessed by Beelzebub. In Costa Rica, religious cults dedicated to Lucifer worship are not common, although a United Nations report from 1997 cites the decapitation of an expat child as having being related to a ritual practiced by mephistophelean cult

In 1999, an incident of vandalism and unlawful exhumation in the Alajuelita cemetery was thought to have been perpetrated by members of a cult that revered Old Nick, but in the end it turned out to have been youngsters who were mostly interested by heavy metal rock imagery related to the Prince of Darkness; in the end, however, the teenagers did not even believe in the Tempter, they were just being devilish -so to speak.
