In the wake of the recent atrocities committed against the good people of France, the Presidential Office of Costa Rica released the following statement:

The Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Costa Rica hereby sends heartfelt expressions of solidarity and support for the people and Government of France in this time of grief.

Costa Rica expresses its deep condemnation for the indiscriminate attacks reported earlier in Paris, which have claimed the lives of a significant number of people.

The events that have been reported are attacks against freedom and require the unanimous condemnation from the international community.

Costa Rica affirms its deep condemnation of all forms and manifestations of terrorism, given its destructive and evil nature that makes victims out of innocent civilians.

Costa Rica and France share a historic friendship that is grounded in the universal defense of human rights; from the principles of freedom, equality and fraternity, our friendship can only become stronger in this time of suffering and distress.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the following statement:

Costa Rica expressed deep feelings of solidarity with the Honorable People and the Illustrious Government of the French Republic in the wake of shootings and other acts of violence and terrorism in various sections of Paris.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the solidarity with the families affected by the deaths of [more than a hundred] people and several others who were wounded.

All the same, the Ministry expresses its highest condolences for the pain and grief that this tragedy has caused, and we send our solidarity to the people and Government of France, in particular to the families of those affected.

National newspaper La Nacion published statements by Shirley Cruz, the star attacking midfielder from Costa Rica who plays for the Paris Saint-Germain of the Women’s First Division in France. Miss Cruz had planned to attend the friendly international match between the top-rated National Football Teams of France and Germany; it so happens that the horrific attacks took place near the stadium.

Miss Cruz lives in Paris, and she mentioned that she felt deeply affected and saddened by the events. The National Olympic Committee of Costa Rica asked news outlets to refrain from contacting Miss Cruz at this time.
