Rio de Janeiro, Dec 9 (EFE).– Two Brazilian brothers ages 17 and 20 were arrested Wednesday after dressing in typical Arab robes and saying they were going to detonate a fake bomb on a public bus in the town of Pelotas, in Rio Grande do Sul state, local media reported.

In a video provided by one of the witnesses showing the moment when the two young men boarded the bus, one can see how a group of passengers, including children and elderly people, fled in a panic with a few of them slightly injuring themselves and dropping personal items as they ran away.

Some of the passengers confronted the self-proclaimed terrorists and subdued them, after which they guarded them until the police arrived.

Military Brigade soldier Emerson Rocha told the G1 Web page that, if a civil or military police officer, or some other security agent, had been present during the prank, “those guys would be dead.”

Once they had been taken to the police station, the older brother identified himself as a fan of Youtube who was intending to make his blunder public online.

After giving a statement, the 20-year-old brother was charged with inciting a crime and corruption of a minor, but he was released after posting bail of 1,500 reais (about $400).

The younger brother, who was also arrested, was released into his mother’s custody when she came to the police station to collect him. EFE
