New York, Feb 13 (EFE; odds by IDSca.com).– The New York Yankees and Cuban star closer Aroldis Chapman agreed to a one-year, $11.3-million contract, avoiding salary arbitration.

The Yankees will pay Chapman, whom they acquired this offseason from the Cincinnati Reds, $11,325,000 in his first season in the Bronx, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal said.

Chapman, who turns 28 this month, finished last season with 33 saves and a 1.63 ERA. He also struck out a whopping 116 batters in just 66 1/3 innings for the Reds.

The Yankees traded four minor leaguers for Chapman, who signed with the Bronx Bombers after the Los Angeles Dodgers abandoned their pursuit of the closer once allegations surfaced about his involvement in a domestic violence incident.

No charges were brought against Chapman due to insufficient evidence, a favorable outcome for the Yankees, who had acquired the hard-throwing closer, known as the Cuban Missile, before his legal situation was resolved.

Major League Baseball’s commissioner’s office also is not expected to investigate the matter.

Chapman, who regularly hurls pitches in excess of 100 miles per hour, holds the record for the fastest recorded pitch speed in MLB history at 105 mph. EFE

Odds makers and sports betting analysts are paying close attention to the MLB team lineups as they prepare for the 2016 season.
