Some 760 foreclosed homes, lots, and commercial properties will be up for grabs this weekend, April 15-17, at the inaugural “Interbank Expo,” where the State-owned banks, Banco de Costa Rica, Banco Nacional and Banco Popular will join forces to remove foreclosed real estate from their books.
The expo will be held at the City Mall in Alajuela, and attendees will find houses beginning at just ¢5 million (less than US $10,000) and land from just US $2,000, according to organizers.
Assets include single-family homes, lots, apartment buildings, condominiums, and commercial properties, organizers said.
All three banks will also offer financing for qualified buyers. In the case of Banco de Costa Rica (BCR), which has about 300 properties for sale, the bank will offer a rate of 5.5 percent in dollars for the first five years, which then adjusts to the prime rate (currently 3.5 percent) plus 2.25 points.
Banco Nacional, which also has some 300 properties for sale, will provide financing at 5.5 percent in dollars for a fixed term of 20 years.
For its part, Banco Popular, which has about 160 properties for sale, will provide financing in dollars at a fixed rate of 6 percent for a maximum period of 30 years.
Admission to the expo is free of charge. Hours are Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
