Algeciras, Spain, Jun 20 (EFE).– The Spanish Civil Guard in the southern port of Algeciras seized 280 kilos (615 lbs.) of cocaine hidden in a container shipped from Brazil, the security corps reported in a statement.
An investigation by Spain’s Civil Guard aided by Brazilian police intelligence found the drug hidden in a container transporting a legal cargo of sugar.
Once informed about such shipments, the Spanish agents located last June 13 a ship docked at Algeciras that had sailed from the Latin American country transporting several containers of the kind they were looking for.
While carrying out their inspection, the Civil Guard found inside one of the containers eight black bags containing a total of 280 kilos (615 lbs.) of cocaine.
The investigation remains open in an attempt to pinpoint and arrest the suspected drug runners. EFE
