The International Project Habesha and Cenfotec University are gathering efforts to provide a Syrian refugee with the necessary financial help so he can conclude his college studies.

The young man/women has yet to be selected through an interview process, “We are working together with NGO’s and educational centers in the Middle East that represent the first contact to recommend candidates for the project” commented Steven Guerrero, Director of Habesha in Costa Rica.

According to the UN’s refugee Agency (UNHCR), through March of 2016 an approximate 4.8 million Syrian refugees were in neighboring countries, and 6.6 million people were displaced throughout Syria.

There are 12 young people interested in participating and two more that are in the interview stage; to be considered, the interested parties have to send a letter explaining the reasons why they’d like to be considered; in a second stage selected candidates have to attend an interview.

“Besides an investigation that is conducted about the candidate (family, social media, etc.), they are also analyzed by representatives of the organization in Costa Rica and Mexico”, explained Guerrero

Once the candidate is selected, the proposal is sent to the Costa Rican Government and the University, at which point the student will enter the country with a student visa.

Candidates must be young students that had to discontinue their studies as a consequence of the war in Syria.

The student would travel to the country alone and will begin classes in the last quarter.
