Two of Costa Rica’s best surfers, Noe Mar McGonagle and Carlos “Cali” Muñoz had another great session at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California where they both managed to qualify to the fourth round.

Carlos Muñoz, described by the WSL site today as “the embodiment of the pura vida surfing life”, showed his surfing skills today and scored one of the best waves in the day, which earned him 9 points and a final score of 13.97.

“I am a new person, I have erased all negative things from my life and this has done good for my life and is being reflected in my surfing. Surfing is my passion and that’s why I am so excited with the results”, said Muñoz when he came out of the water.

One heat later, it was Noe Mar who started out well but then went down to the third position and finally was able to get in the second place of his heat in the last few seconds with a score of 13.00.

Both Costa Ricans moved on to the fourth round of the tournament and will meet tomorrow in heat 5; each heat involves three surfers, out of which two will go through to the fifth round and one will be left out. The third man in their heat has not been defined yet since Round 3 did not reach its conclusion today and more heats will be contested tomorrow.
Round 4 involves a total of 24 surfers; those who manage to classify will go through to Round 5 and they’ll battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Costa Ricans will each try to do their best to move on to the next stage, ideally and with a little teamwork they can both make it through, but in the worst case scenario at least one of them will be in the 5th round.

Cali and McGonagle are competing in the WQS 10,000 were the winner will get 10,000 valuable points towards the Championship Tour Qualification.
