Carlos “Cali” Muñoz is probably on one of the best moments of his career, present in the US Open of Surfing, “Surf City” in Huntington Beach, California, Muñoz made it today past the fourth round of the competition in the first position of his heat.

As we reported yesterday, Muñoz and also Costa Rican Noe Mar McGonagle had made it to the 4th round and were competing together in the same heat; each heat had three contestants out of which only two could continue on. Noe Mar McGonagle unfortunately was left behind with a total score of 7.97 several points under Muñoz who scored 9.37 and Hawaiian Dusty Payne who was the third competitor and scored 9.34.

Muñoz will be competing again tomorrow in Round 5 going head to head against Jadson Andre from Brazil, only one of the two will make it to quarterfinals. Andre is a strong competitor who today managed a total score of 11.56, so Muñoz will have to bring his A game in order to make it to the quarterfinals.

¨Cali¨is the only Costa Rican surfer out of six, still in competition at the US Open of Surfing; Malakai Martinez and Aldo Chirinos, who took part of the Male Junior PRO, didn´t make it past round 2 and round 1 (of 5) respectively, while female representatives Leilani McGonagle and Emily Gussoni left the competition in round 6 and round 2 respectively.

The VANS US Open of Surfing competition is part of a sports festival that includes Skating and BMX events as well as cultural and entertainment activities that gather more than 500 thousand people, the surfing event will come to an end on Sunday, August 6th.
