Carlos Muñoz is motivated, giving his best surf and proving that he belongs among the best in the world. Today, the Costa Rican surfer classified to the quarterfinals of the US Open of Surfing.
Muñoz went head to head with Brazilian Jason Andre, regarded as one of the best Brazilian surfers in recent years. ¨Cali¨ scored a total of 13.66 points while Andre finished with 7.90.
This is a version of Carlos Muñoz we probably haven´t seen since 2013 and 2014 when he got his best results at the WSL QS reaching the semifinals in 2013.
¨This was a very tough heat against Jadson, he is an incredible surfer. There were not a lot of waves today so I went in and I tried to be patient, I tried to stay calm while at the same time I kept telling myself ¨I can do this!¨, said the Costa Rican from Esterillos Oeste, who continued, ¨I gave it my all, and I am thrilled to go through to the next stage. This is a dream and I feel very excited, I want to thank all the ¨ticos¨ out here supporting us, all those that believe in me, every time I am in the water I hear them scream and that gives me goosebumps, it´s hard to explain how it feels, but I want to thank everyone, Pura Vida!¨.
Tomorrow the Costa Rican will go up against South African Michael February and if he comes out victorius he will be in the semifinals.
The VANS US Open of Surfing takes place at Huntigton Beach, California.
