26-year-old Costa Rican designer Rob Chamaeleo received an invitation to participate in the World Fashion Week in Malaysia, an event considered the maximum global platform for fashion professionals.
Chamaeleo participated recently in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week San José, and it was because of his participation in this show that one of the guests, José Forteza, editor of Vogue Latin America, impressed by his work, recommended Chamaeleo to be considered for the World Fashion Week.
The World Fashion Week Asia 2017 is set to be officially hosted by the City of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from the 8th to the 10th of September with the global theme “Love the Nature, Love the World”.
“This fashion event will receive thousands of visitors, buyers, retailers, and international media partners, including official global broadcaster FashionTV, reaching an audience of over 300 million people in 200 countries”, states the World Fashion Week website.
Chamaeleo was invited last year to participate in the Fashion and Design Festival in Montreal, Canada; his designs have also been picked by Bollywood actresses Tisca Chopra and Rakul Preet for their appearances in important red carpet shows in India. Chamaeleo is also the director of the fashion design career at Universidad Creativa in Costa Rica.
The Costa Rican designer recognizes this invitation as the biggest opportunity so far in his career, “This is like a fashion Olympiad. In Costa Rica the fashion industry is growing, but it is hard to deal with big buyers regionally. Costa Rica is known for its tourism and nature, not for its fashion, which is why having a national brand have the opportunity to go to the biggest buyer fair in the world is huge and it opens the doors to other designers”, commented Chamaeleo (Chamaeleo means chameleon in latin).
Chamaeleo will present the same 2018 collection he presented at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Redrum Yxes. He is preparing in order to be able to face the demand he expects to get from buyers.
