The San Jose Marathon will take place on Sunday, December 3 starting at 6 a.m.; this is the 22nd edition of this athletic event.
This event is a certified route; the marks for each of the participants are sent to the International Association of Athletics Federations, this marks are taken into consideration in events such as the New York Marathon or Chicago Marathon to grant the certification to the athletes.
The competition begins at the National Stadium, goes through Paseo Colon, the 2nd avenue and then towards the National Gym, taking route 27 and finishing at the United States Embassy.
The road will be divided to protect the participating athletes from the cars, and there will be 80 traffic officials working in the event and 250 assistants.
The San Jose Marathon, offers besides the regular 42K competition, a 21K category (half-marathon), 10K and 4K as well as relay competitions.
This year the marathon expects 4,000 competitors; many international athletes take part of this event, among them Kenyan Hillary Kimaiyo who won the marathon in 2013 with a time of 2:17:27, which remains the best mark in this event; Kimaiyo comes back this year with the hopes of improving his mark to 2:15.
The winner of the event takes $2,000.00, if the record is broken then there is an additional $3,000.00 prize.
