The Surfing Awards Ceremony will take place December 21 at 8 p.m. at Club Vertigo in Centro Colón, Paseo Colon, Costa Rica.
This event has the support of the Surf Federation of Costa Rica, the judges are certified and there won’t be popular vote to avoid favoritism. This year the event will have 19 categories, among them, surfer of the year, biggest wave, aerial of the year, to mention just a few.
Winners of the event will take cash prizes, trophies and sponsors’ products; Surfing Republic will also select a winner among the nominees in the category Aloha of the year, a prospect that has the charisma, skills and hunger for pipe surfing but not the financial means to afford a trip to Hawaii, the prize will include air fare to Hawaii.
The strongest candidate to winning surfer of the year is Leilani McGonagle, who has had a very successful 2017 both in national and international events. McGonagle, her brother Noe Mar and Cali Muñoz have received this award in previous editions of the Surfing Awards.
The event is open to the public and will have the participation of several DJ’s and a live band. Tickets to attend have a cost of 5 thousand colones.
