Qatar donated US$1million to Costa Rica to be used for the attention and rebuilding process of the áreas affected by tropical storm Nate and Otto hurricane.

Through a press release the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that the funds will be deposited in an account of the National Emergency Committee (CNE).

“Receiving this generous help from friendly countries is very meaningful. A country that has no obligation to help us, and yet they do it precisely because of the good relations we have, and understanding that just like they have their problems and difficulties we also have a need for collaborations of good faith”, stated Manuel Gonzales, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Hurricane Otto impacted Costa Rica in November of 2016, causing the death of 10 people and huge loses mostly in the Northern Zone of the country, the Caribbean and Guanacaste.

Tropical Storm Nate, on the other hand, is considered one of the biggest natural disasters in the country’s history, it hit Costa Rica in October this year and affected almost the entire country, leaving 14 dead and big damages in infrastructure. The total in damages is estimated by the Government in close to $365 million.
