Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Costa Rica’s Ambassador to the US Gonzalo Facio Segreda passed away this Wednesday, January 24 in his house in Escazu.
Facio was 99 years old and had been fighting an illness for some time. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1970 to 1976 and from 1977 to 1978. He was also Costa Rica’s Ambassador to the United States in three periods, from 1956 to 1958, 1962-1966 and 1990-1994; and Costa Rica’s Amabassador to Mexico from 1998 through 2001.
Gonzalo Facio was an attorney, politician and diplomat, he help found the National Liberation Party (PLN) and participated actively in the civil war of 1948; in this same year he participated in the debate and enactment of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN.
When it comes to his personal life, he was married three times and has five daughters and one son.
The burning chapel will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Legislative Assembly building and from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Golden Room of the Yellow House (Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
