PUNTARENAS – Prior to entering this year’s National Rally in Costa Rica, Jose Andres Montalto and Rodrigo Quiros were confident that they could come away with their third consecutive annual victory. Before the event, Mr. Montalto explained that he could trust in the Subaru vehicle that would bring the team their third win in Abangaritos:

“The car in general is doing well, the problems we had last time with the hydraulics were unfortunately things that strike when you least expect them. We chose a completely different pump; problem solved.”

Montalto and Quiros had no problems winning the Abangaritos Rally yesterday.

The circuit in Abangaritos was very challenging this season due to early rains and constant humidity, but it remains the most popular circuit in Costa Rica thanks to the support of the local community. The surfaces have been cleared up for the racers, which resulted in increased speed and competitiveness. According to Puro Motor Costa Rica, the Montalto and Quiros team -sponsored by Castrol- averaged 112 km/hr over eight rounds. Their victory was absolute, as they won seven out of the eight rounds.

Second place was taken by a rookie team: Juan Carlos Alvarado and Tomas Morua, who were able to come away with a respectable score despite having absorbed a crash on the driver side.

Third place was earned by brother and sister team Gerardo and Rebeca Moreno, who drive for the Molina Rally Team -one of the most experienced teams in Costa Rica. The Moreno siblings experienced difficulty with their 2000 Mitsubishi Evo turbocharger the entire rally.

In Abangaritos, Andres Molina and Eduardo Corrales drove a 2011 Kia Cerato for the Molina Rally Team, and they took first place in their category and fourth place overall.

Earlier in May, Molina and Corrales were in Oaxaca, Mexico racing with a Mistubishi Lancer. On the second day of the Nacam Rally Championship, the Tico rally team came away with the first place. The Nacam Rally Championship will move from Oaxaca to Costa Rica in July, when the circuit will continue in Playa Jaco.
