The San Jose Marathon will take place this Sunday, May 20, and this will cause the closure of several streets in downtown San Jose from 4 a.m. through noon.

This year the marathon will have the participation of 3000 athletes, out of these, more than 100 are international athletes representing 20 countries, among them: Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, USA, Mexico, Kenia, Panama, Nicaragua, France, Venezuela, Uruguay and Span.

The San Jose Municipality and the organization of the event will have the assistance of 200 Municipal Police officers, as well as traffic police officers to guarantee the security of the athletes and close to 500 volunteers assisting during the event.

“The marathon goes through the main streets of our capital city, it’s a beautiful route, that will take participants through historic landmarks and we hope that everyone enjoys the event”, commented Heiner Ugalde, president of the Cantonal Committee of Sports and Recreation of San Jose (CCDR SJ).

Athletes will participate in different categories and distances: 5 km (3 miles), 10.5 km (6.5 miles), 21 km (13 miles) and 42 km (26 miles).
