1,276 Venezuelan citizens are registered to vote in Costa Rica, however, the majority chose not to cast their vote and this was evident in the movement at the Venezuelan embassy in San Pedro were very few made an appearance.

“None of us voted, because it will be more of the same. Before we vote the government already has the results, it’s already to their favor,” commented Marlon Abraham in an interview with news website AmeliaRueda.com

The majority of Venezuelans expressed their distrust in the process, which they consider fraudulent and dirty. They consider the National Election Council is not transparent.

In the meantime, Costa Rica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed earlier this week their support to what’s known as the Lima Group declaration, which called on the Venezuelan government to suspend the elections and which was signed by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and St. Lucia with the participation of Spain and through video conference the US’ secretary of State.

“The participating countries reaffirmed their condemn of the authoritarian regimen that is governing Venezuela, and which has violated the democratic institutionalism, the State of law, and the respect to human rights, and has called on an illegitimate electoral process which lacks credibility”, stated the press release offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
