Costa Rican runner Juan Diego Castro, earned his ticket to the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Athletics, also known as the World Junior Championships in the 800 meter track running category.

Castro took the first place in the U20 Central American Championship that is being held in El Salvador, stopping the clock in 1:49.95 when the time established by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) was 1:50.00. Castro also established a new record for the Central American Championship.

The second place was for Byron Herrera from Guatemala with a time of 1:58.89 and in third place came Joseph Hernandez from El Salvador who marked 1:59.25 .

The World Junior Championships will take place at the Ratina Stadium in Tampere, Finland on July 10 through July 15, 2018.

Castro holds the best national record in this category with 1:49.76 which he achieved when he earned fourth place in the 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships that took place in Kenya.

The young athlete also won the gold medal during the Managua Central American Games and classified to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia which are scheduled in July.
