Costa Rica had a good day at the finals of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association NACAC Track & Field Championship celebrated in Toronto, Canada.

Athlete Roberto Sawyers earned the gold medal in the hammer throw competition with a mark of72.94 meters, his personal best this year, the best in the event, and also earning a direct pass to the 2019 World Championships in Athletics that will take place in Doha, Qatar.

The silver medal in hammer throw went to Alex Young from the United States with 72.75 meters and third place to Canadian Adam Keenan with 71.98 meters.

Andrea Vargas took bronze in the 100 meter-hurdles final stopping the clock at 12:91; the first place went to USA’s Kendra Harrison who marked 12:55 and Jamaican Danielle Williams came in second with a time of 12:68. Harrison was the favorite in this competition since she is the holder of the world record with 12:20.

The native of Limon, Nery Brenes won the silver medal in the 400-meter competition with a time of 45:67, only behind Jamaican Demish Gaye who managed 45:47; the third position went to Myles Pringle from the United States who marked 45:99.
