Agents of the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) and the District Attorney carried out several raids the morning of this Friday in properties related to former president of state bank Banco de Costa Rica (BCR), Paola Mora in connection to the “Cementazo” corruption case. According to information offered by Jose Miguel Villalobos, Mora’s lawyer, they were expecting this search to be conducted anytime. The only objective, for now, is the search of documents or information related to the corruption case.

Agents searched properties in Curridabat, Escazú and San Pedro in San Jose, as well as in San Ramon de la Unión in Cartago. The properties include Mora’s home and office as well as the home of a man of last name Muñoz in Escazu who is apparently connected to an Association related to a sports team of a university which could have received benefits from Mora.

Earlier this month Mario Barrenechea, former General Manager of Banco de Costa Rica received the benefit of house arrest after being in preventive imprisonment since November 6, 2017; Barrenechea is accused of embezzlement regarding a credit granted for $30 million to the company of Juan Carlos Bolaños.

Bolaños, the main actor in the Cementazo case is still in prison, the court actually extended his preventive custody measure through November 4, 2018; he is facing charges of embezzlement, influence peddling, criminal simulation and false accusation.
