The Ministry of Public Security of Costa Rica intercepted two motorboats the evening of this Tuesday and early hours of Wednesday in waters of the Caribbean loaded with marijuana.
The Coast Guard Service of Barra del Colorado was in charge of the operation along with agents of the Drug Control Police. The boats were located at open sea, when the Coast Guard Patrol signaled them to stop they sped in direction of the coast.
The chase came to and end after 11 p.m. on Tuesday 19.4 nautical miles northeast of Puerto Limon.
Drug Control Police found that one of the motorboats was carrying 790 kilograms of marijuana while the second one was transporting 770 kilograms for a total of over 1.5 tons of this drug.
Five people were arrested in relation to this case, of last names García, Vargas, González, Chavarría and Ruíz, none of them had prior criminal records.
