Authorities of the Ministry of Public Security in Costa Rica intercepted two boats carrying a total one ton of cocaine, one of the boats was used in for sports fishing while the other one for small-scale commercial fishing. In total 5 people were arrested, all of them Costa Rican.

The operation started after midnight this Saturday, November 10, when members of the National Coast Guard Service noticed the boats 80 nautical miles from Quepos in Puntarenas and saw some packages being transferred from one vessel to the other.

Coast Guard officers immediately intercepted both boats and found that the small-scale fishing boat, registered under license P-5862 belonged to a 29-year-old man of last name Villegas and had three people aboard all of them men, one of last name Castro Alvarado, 47, and with a prior criminal record for drug trafficking; another one of last names Jiménez Jiménez 53-years-old and without prior record and a 59 year-old of last names Grima Obando also without prior criminal record.

The second vessel, used for sport fishing and under the name “Don’t Worry” is registered under the corporation name “Inversiones El Zenit S.A.”, two men were on board, one 34 of last names Mayorga Fernández and 45 year-old of last names López Guido.

The Drug Contro Police (PCD) counted 26 packets with 760 kilograms aboard the small-scale fishing boat, and 8 bags with another 240 kilograms aboard the sports fishing vessel.

The operations carried out this year by air, ground and water have resulted on a total of 20 tons 62.91 kilograms of cocaine worth over 720 Million USD along with 5 tons 38.97 kilograms of marijuana, in total 787 people have been arrested in connection to drug trafficking crimes.
