During a press conference this Wednesday, December 19, Global Sportx Group confirmed that the traditional Tamarindo Beach Marathon will be moving to Flamingo this 2019.

This sporting event that has been taking place for 12 years in Tamarindo, Guanacaste changed its site to the neighboring beach town due to the lack of support from different entities and companies and with the purpose of improving the logistics of the event.

¨Since the event has become so big and has so much international weight, we needed to evolve and improve in terms of presence and logistics¨, commented Isaac López, director of Global Sportx Group¨, who continued on to explain ¨This event was born as an alternative to generate income to the area during the month of September which is low season. However, as years went by, the rates for accommodations increased considerably for the athletes, we want to go back to the initial idea of the event and what made it so attractive for participants for many years¨.

Global Sportx Group is receiving the support of the newly inaugurated Margaritaville Beach Resort and the community of Flamingo .

Even though the route is new some parts will be the same, ¨those that ran Tamarindo in the past should be familiarized specially in the 30km and 42 km distance¨, detailed López.

The traditional routes of 10 and 21 kilometers continue as part of the event and a more recreational route of only 6km has been included for this 2019 edition that is scheduled for Saturday, September 14.
