The hydro-thermal activity at the Poas Volcano has maintained throughout the last month, and it presented an important eruption the afternoon of this Monday, January 7.

These eruptions are considered as normal for this volcano, they occur as the lake dries out leaving behind mud and sediments which cause impulsive expulsions of gas.

Poas Volcano National Park reopened its doors to the public on August 31 after more than 16 months of remaining closed due to important activity; it has now controlled access, with only 50 people being able to enter at a time; tickets must be purchased online through the website www.sinac.go.cr.

The Park opens from 7 a.m. through 1 p.m. The tickets have a cost of ₡1,000.00 colones for nationals and residents, ₡500.00 colones for national and resident children between the ages of 2 and 12; $15.00 for none residents and $5.00 for non-resident children between the ages of 2 and 12. Children under 2 and nationals and residents over 65 years of age do not pay.
