The Technical Council of Civil Aviation (CETAC) and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) will invest over $10 million USD in important works to improve the international airport of the province of Limon and the airfields of Guápiles and Tortuguero.

“This is a country effort to promote economic reactivation, tourism, production, commerce and connectivity, staying in line with the mission of the institution of attention to the user, operational security, optimization of resources and continues improvement and innovation”, commented Guillermo Hoppe, Director of Civil Aviation.

Just in the Limón International Airport, the investment is of over $3 million USD in the construction of a new passenger terminal that complies with international aerospace norms.

The new building will have waiting rooms, government offices, division of international and national passengers, and of course fire prevention system, wastewater treatment systems, parking, etc.

The airfield of the Caribbean city of Guápiles has also undergone important work with the reconstruction and extension of the entire landing strip, the improvement of security zones, horizontal signage, construction of a small module as a terminal, perimeter fence and rainwater systems. This airstrip still has other improvements awaiting that will take place in a second stage and that will include a hangar, a module with rooms and offices for the Aerial Surveillance Service personnel and the lighting of the strip.

Finally the airfield of Tortuguero, will also receive funds to be invested on the improvement of the landing strip, the construction of a platform for the parking of airplanes and a new terminal that gathers the necessary conditions of the attention of passengers, government offices and other facilities.
