Costa Rica’s boarder control police spotted a vessel that ran aground in the area of Punta Burica in the Southern Zone of the country, five people were arrested in relation to this case, the boat was loaded with one ton and nine kilograms of cocaine.

Boarder control police received the assistance of the Drug Control Police, Air Surveillance, Public Police Force and National Coast Guard Service.

The red and grey 32ft boat was equipped with two 200HP engines, aboard the same the police counted 1,009 packages of cocaine.

The men arrested included one Costa Rican of last names Vásquez Gómez, 39 years old, and the rest of the men were of Colombian nationality and ages between 26 and 47.

In another police operation the Drug Control Police (PCD) seized 1.5 tons of cocaine found inside a container at the Limon Port.

The container was found in a revision at the port and was scheduled to depart this Sunday, September 22 with Belgium as its final destination. The container was carrying a legal load of ethylene oxide cylinders and belonged to an export company.

Since the container was carrying a load of these dangerous chemicals the revision was a lot more rigorous counting even with the presence of the fire department. During the revision the agents found 60 bags packed with 1500 packages of cocaine each weighing one kilogram.

From January 1 through this Saturday Costa Rican Public Security Authorities have seized a total 18 tons 346.53 kilograms of cocaine and 7 tons of marijuana.
