Costa Rican Border Police officers from Guaycará, Golfito, Puntarenas arrested a man that was traveling as a passenger aboard a car towards San José and was carrying fake identification documents.

Officers stopped the car which entered the country from Panama, requested the identifications and the man originally provided documents under the name “Michael Dominik John” from California, USA, “everything seemed normal up to that point, with that identity nothing came up in the system, the officers just continued making a thorough check of the documents and perhaps of fear of being discovered, the man himself said the documents were false and identified himself as “Julio Mairena” from Nicaragua“, states the information provided by the Ministry of Public Security.

Police officers checked the information and consulted with the Drug Control Police and authorities of the USA Embassy in Costa Rica and discovered the man’s real name is Osvaldo Polanco, a Dominican-American who is wanted by the American authorities in relation with the murder of Francisco Pinzon Martinez which occurred back in 2012.

Osvaldo Polanco, 38 years old, was, according to a report from the New York Daily News, “ratted out by his alleged partners”, as he played a role in a robbery on a building in Broadway that concluded with the murder of 30-year-old Pinzon.

Back then, the authorities in the USA had arrested Alejandro Polanco, a week after the crime and Kenny Garcia one month later, they were both charged with murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

The man is currently detained in Costa Rica and will remain here until he is extradited to the United States to face charges.
