As a result of the joint patrolling operations with the United States,Costa Rica has managed to seize historic amounts of drugs in the past two years that sum over 81 tons of cocaine and marijuana.

The information was released by the Minister of Public Security, Michael Soto, during a visit this week of the US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo to the Joint Operations Center in the Juan Santamaria Aiport.

The total amount of cocaine and marijuana seized in 2018 was of 35.5 tons while in 2019 it reached 45.7 tons, numbers that put the country in the first place in efficiency among the rest of the countries in the region that carry out joint operations with the United States.
The Joint Operations Center was inaugurated in 2019 and is here where all police bodies of the Ministry of Security coordinate with the United States to battle drug trafficking.

“I want to commend Costa Rica for the work that it has done in its fight against drugs. President Trump is committed to defending America against poison peddled by transnational criminal organizations. Both our countries are more secure as a result of the great work being done by Costa Rican law enforcement and your country”, commented Pompeo.
