The total number of patients infected with coronavirus in Costa Rica went from 89 yesterday to 113. The first two patients that were diagnosed have recovered in full.

So far two senior citizens have died, and two patients remain in intensive care.

The new number includes 46 women, 67 men, 104 Costa Rican and 7 foreigners. Nine of the cases correspond to senior citizens.
1,046 cases have been discarded.

The Minister of Health, Daniel Salas, insisted yesterday that this first wave could last as many as 8 to 12 weeks.

Massive events will remain canceled through September and even then, there will be restrictions. Some sporting events might resume earlier than that, but games would have to be played behind closed doors.

Authorities have taken precautions in the different public hospitals to provide appropriate care for the patients and avoid transmission. They also adapted the infrastructure of the National Center of Rehabilitation (Cenare) to be used as additional space for Covid-19 positive patients in case it becomes necessary. As of March 27 Cenare will suspend its regular services and will be available exclusively for this emergency.

The sell of lottery tickets has also been suspended from March 24 through April 5. Movie theaters and theaters to remain closed this weekend.

The Government continues to work on measures to help all industries and businesses that are being financially affected by Coronavirus.

The Central American Bank of Economic Integration donated $1million dollars to attend this emergency.
