This Saturday May 2nd The Costa Rican firefighters needed to battle the largest fire in the past ten years, a storage facility belonging the company Empaques Santa Ana located in El Coyol, Alajuela that started burning this afternoon.

The 22,400 square meter (241,111 square ft.) facility was entirely entirely and required the presence of over 100 firefighters and 17 units that continued to battle the fire well into the night hours.

Empaques Santa Ana is a company dedicated to packing supplies and therefore stores a lot of cardboard and wood, flammable materials that along with the strong wind help propagate the fire.

According to the authorities, at this time there are no reports of people affected.

The cause of the fire is unknown currently.

So far in 2020 firefighters have attended 430 structural fires in the country.
