A light airplane of the company Aerobell crashed in the area of La Fortuna, San Carlos, Costa Rica.

According to information offered by civil aviation, the plane took off at 8:42 a.m. from the Tobías Bolaños Airport in Pavas and headed towards the Northern Zone (El Tanque Airport) in a flight that was only 22 minutes long.

The control tower received an ELT emergency alert from the aircraft 15 minutes after take off. Emergency and search and rescue operations were immediately activated.

Apparently only the pilot was aboard the airplane TI-BDH a Piper Seneca, the plane was on its way to pick up some passengers; the pilot is identified as Mario Delgado, 37 years-old, and whose condition is currently unknown.

The plane plunged in Cerro Burrito, an area of difficult access; at this time the emergency crew is still trying to gain access to the zone.

Update 6:15 p.m.

Authorities have confirmed the death of the pilot, 37-year-old, Mario Delgado Bogantes, who apparently had over 10 years of experience as a pilot.
