Debi Nova’s album 3:33 is the first album by a Costa Rican artist to be nominated to a Grammy.

The album was nominated in the category best Latin pop or urban album where it will compete with other renowned artists such as Bad Buddy with his album “YHLQMDLG” (Spanish acronym for ‘I do whatever I want’), Camilo with “Por Primera Vez” (For the First Time) Kany Garcia with “Mesa para dos” (Table for Two) and Ricky Martin with his album “Pausa” (Pause); the announcement was made in a virtual ceremony, the gala will be celebrated on January 31, 2021.

The last time a Costa Rican was part of the Grammy Awards was back in 2000 when the national band Editus in collaboration with Panamanian singer and songwriter Ruben Blades win in the category “Best Pop Latin Interpretation”

To be nominated, albums must have at least 51% of playing time of their new recordings.

Nova recently won a Latin Grammy in the category “Best Recording Engineering for an Album” and was also nominated in the categories “Best Tropical Song” and “Best Singer-Songwriter Album”

Debi Nova, born Deborah Nowalski Kader, was born in Costa Rica in 1980 and is of Polish-Jewish descent; she moved to Los Angeles at age 17 and has worked with artists such as Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, and Venezuelan Franco De Vita.

The Costa Rican artist has had a successful career in the United States and is greatly regarded in Costa Rica, Colombia, and other Latin American countries, in 2004 her song “One Rhythm” was the #1 track on Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play; she also participated in 2010 Dancing With The Stars US television show.

In 2010 she released her first studio album Luna Nueva, produced by Gustavo Santaolalla and which included 10 English-language songs, the first single Drummer Boy was well received by the public.

Her 2014 album “Soy” (I am) was also nominated at the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards in the category “Best New Vocal Pop Album”.
