American Airlines inaugurated this Thursday its new daily flight that will connect the JFK International Airport in New York and the Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose.

The first flight landed at 8:30 p.m. in Costa Rica with 160 people aboard.

“This new route is an example of our commitment to Costa Rica”, commented Rafael Sánchez, Regional head of Operations for American Airlines. “Very soon we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary serving this country and our plans are to continue growing in Costa Rica and offering our clients unbeatable connectivity”, he continued.

The JFK-SJO flight leaves from New York at 15:59 and arrives in SJO at 20:30, it leaves SJO at 23:49 and arrives at JFK at 06:00.

“The new America Airlines flight represent a connection to and from the main airports in Costa Rica and New York. From New York City many people arrive to Costa Rica making stops in other destinations, now, they will be able to fly directly, which promotes the traffic and facilitates transportation for travelers. We are sure of the success of this route, through the end of last year New York moved more than 300 passengers a day”, commented Rafael Mencía, Executive Director of AERIS Costa Rica.

The new flight to the Juan Santamaria Airport adds 58400 seats a year, while the route towards the Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste adds 8320.

From January through October 2019 the country counted 1,056,703 arrivals of US citizens which represents a 5.2% growth in relation to the same period of time for 2019.
