Bernard Leon La Duke, an American citizen, and his wife Seidy Sánchez Chaves were dug out of under a mountain of mud and rubble yesterday, in the community of Concepción de Agua Buena in Coto Brus, South Pacific region of Costa Rica.

The heavy rain caused by ETA during this week in Costa Rica has caused floods, landslides, and road damages in different areas of the country.

According to neighbors the landslide occurred at around 4 a.m. this past Thursday, however, it was not until later that morning when they realized what had happened and began the rescue work.
The bodies were recovered at around 3 p.m.

La Duke was 71 years old and a native of California, he also had Costarican citizenship and was a real estate agent. His wife was 51 years of age and from the area of Zacudo beach in Corredores, Puntarenas.

The couple had been living in the area for over 20 years.
