The crisis continues in Nicaragua as the government and the opposition fail to come to terms.

According to EFE, the Nicaraguan Health Minister Sonia Castro confirmed Thursday that 15 people have died and 199 have been wounded over the past two days of protests around the country.
While the Nicaraguan Center of Human Rights (CENIDH) detailed in a preliminary report that encounters on Wednesday had left 11 dead by gunfire and 79 people wounded in the cities of Managua, Leon and Masaya.

The violence in Nicaragua has extended for six weeks now, it started out as a protest for the revocation of the social security and pension reforms by the government, however, the repressive violence of the state, which left several victims, added to the tension, protesters now demand the democratization of their country and that Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo step down after over a decade of being in the presidential seat.

Humanitarian organizations affirm that the death toll so far is of over 100 victims.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Denis Moncada said that the government is “confronting with reason and the law this criminal wave” and denied the existence of “shock troops or paramilitary groups aligned with the government,” adding that the Ortega administration had not and will “never” provoke such “sorrowful and tragic events.”

The crisis in Nicaragua has been affecting commerce in the region, exporters, importers and transporters in Costa Rica are reporting a decrease in the sales and a raise in the logistics costs as they are obligated to find different options to transport their goods to other countries in Central and North America.

The acts of violence have also led to plundering of commercial stores and government offices.
