The Costa Rican-American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) celebrated the start of operations of the Moin Container Terminal (APM Terminals) since it considers it the first step to the reaffirmation of the efficiency of the concession model in the country and the economic reactivation of the province of Limon.
“AmCham recognizes the seriousness and commitment of the concession company APM Terminals with this project and makes a call to the Government and the general population on the advantages of developing infrastructure projects through the public works concession model”.
“In AmCham we have always been known for finding efficient solutions to big national problems that affect our competitiveness, for this reason, since the beginning, we promoted the public works concession model as a real and safe alternative for the development of infrastructure projects that are required by the country and we provided our support to the investment made by APM Terminals which represents the infrastructure project with highest investment in the history of the country, ($1 billion dollars)”, commented Elías Soley, president of AmCham.
AmCham expects that this new Container Terminal will have a positive impact over the competitiveness indicators for Costa Rica by having one of the most modern container terminals in the Latin America.
Soley also mentioned that is project could become a very important development engine for the country in general, bur specially for the Caribbean zone, reactivating the economy, generating new opportunities of direct and indirect employment as well as productive linkages.
“The Moin Conatiner Terminal represents a clear example of the advantages of Public-Private Alliances, specially the figure of concession, a model in which the construction, financial and operational risk is transferred to the concessionaire, guaranteeing more efficiency to the State as also impacting positively in the economy, making it more dynamic”, concluded Soley.
