The Costa Rica International Festival of the Arts – FIA 2017 kicks off tomorrow Thursday, June 29th and will fill the capital city with different art, music and theater shows.
The Municipality of San José has confirmed all international and national events, the majority of which will be held indoors in 14 different sites, among them the National Theater, the Dance Theater, Theater 1887 and the Melico Salazar Theater; other events will be held outdoors.
There will be over 154 shows to pick from, the majority of the events held indoors will require tickets so it is important you purchase them ahead of time; the tickets to the indoor shows have a cost of 7,000 colones; you can purchase them online through the website www.boleteria.cr.
The FIA 2017 will start tomorrow at the Plaza de la Democracia at 6 p.m. with a concert by the Costa Rican Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Chorus of the Music Institute and from the United States “The Choristers” by Jennifer Call.
The Orchestra will be directed by Costa Rican Marvin Araya and Argentinian director Andrea Merenzón.

Gustavo Santaolalla – FIA 2017 Costa Rica Argentinian composer, 15 times Latin Grammy Award winner, Grammy Award Winner and Academy Award winner for best music score (Babel and Brokeback Mountain)
The concert will have the participation of Argentinian composer, 15 times Latin Grammy Award winner, Grammy Award Winner and Academy Award winner for best music score (Babel and Brokeback Mountain), Gustavo Santaolalla .
Santaolalla has visited the country in several occasions with his band Bajofondo, but this is his first time in the country as a solo artist. Aside from his presentation on June 29th, he will also be offering a presentation at the Melico Salazar Theater on July 2.
The inauguration will also present the dance show Tango Remix, which will take us through some of the history and movements of this wonderful dance; and will close with the incredible performance of Belgium Theatre TOL “Pedaleando hacia el Cielo”; this event will use a 90 ton crane so it can be enjoyed from different parts of the city; screens will also be positioned in several places.
The activities of the FIA 2017 will extend through July 9th. If you want to check the schedules and information on each of the activities you can do so through the FIA App which you can get by accessing fiacr.com (without the WWW).
It is also important to take into consideration that since yesterday several streets in San José have been closed partially for vehicles and some bus stops have also changed their location temporarily. The Municipality of San Jose has recommended to leave the cars at home and travel by other means to the capital city. These measures already caused chaos yesterday in San José.
