The Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) confirmed that according to the autopsy results a body found back on July 4th in the area of Jaco, corresponds to Karin Holzapfel, a 32-year-old German tourist that had been reported missing on June 28th.

The family of the victim posted made the following post on Facebook:

“It is with deep sorrow and regret to inform you all that yesterday, July 17, and after 19 days of pursuit, German Police has personally informed us that our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, has been found dead.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who collaborated during the course of the recent hard weeks, by sharing any information about our family member, and stayed alert to any given situation which could help us find her.

Apparently Holzapfel entered Costa Rica in January 6th, traveled to Panama on January 20th and returned to Costa Rica March 16th, she stayed in the area of Santa Teresa for some time, she also visited other surfing spots and then spent a few weeks in a spiritual retreat in San Mateo, Alajuela to finally return to Jaco on June 28th, that was the last time her family heard from her.

The family made several posts in social media looking for answers on the whereabouts of Karin, the posts mentioned that she had health problems and needed medical treatment.

A neighbor of Jaco came across the remains of a body in Jaco on July 4th and alerted the police. With the collaboration of German authorities’ dental records were compared which confirmed the body found corresponded to Holzapfel.
