The multinational company Boston Scientific Corporation, dedicated to the design, manufacturing, distribution and sale of minimally invasive medical devices of the highest technology, announced that it plans to hire approximately 600 new employees in the upcoming months who will join the 4,200 collaborators that currently work in its operations, making it the largest employer in Costa Rica’s medical device sector.

The company is seeking to hire individuals with different areas of expertise and levels–from workers who have concluded their sixth grade of school (ideally ninth year of high school) to professional graduates in engineering (mechanics, electromechanics, electronics, materials, electrical, industrial, chemical and mechatronics), finance, accounting, among others. The positions will be based in the company’s sites in La Aurora de Heredia and El Coyol de Alajuela.

Boston Scientific has a track record of excellent financial performance over the past five years, achieving $9.8 billion in revenue in 2018, while making numerous acquisitions. The company’s sites in Heredia and El Coyol have been a big part of that growth, expanding operations to support the manufacturing of many additional product lines.

“Here in Costa Rica, our Boston Scientific team already has the opportunity to support the company regionally and globally,” said Luis Javier Serrano, Vice President of Operations of the Coyol plant. “We have a strong manufacturing operation, a Research and Development Center and employees who collaborate to develop new products, ensure the quality of designs and regulatory matters. Other employees support commercial operations (clinical specialists and direct sales) and provide services to Central America and Panama, as well as global information technology services.”

The President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, said that these 600 new job positions reaffirm Boston Scientific’s trust in Costa Rica’s human talent and recalled that, last May, the company won the Shingo Prize, the world’s most significant award in operational excellency.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to work with the private sector to promote and consolidate foreign direct investment that offers better life quality in the country.
