new beer brand in costa rica

An announcement has been made of a Brazilian investment of $25 million to install a brewery in San Jose.

An article in Nacion.com reports that Rui José Prudencio is the president of Grupo Mix, a company in Costa Rica dedicated to importing Brazilian products through its distributor Dibras.

Rui Prudencio announced that a Brazilian consortium is to develop the beer Colônia in Costa Rica starting next year. This brand is imported and distributed by the Brazilian company already and has been in the country for 9 years.

“Our strong point is going to be beer. A big Brazilian beer company is coming with us, but we can not reveal their name. It is not the same company that makes Colônia”, said the Brazilian businessman.

Asked about the capacity of the Costa Rican market for more brands of beer, Gisela Sanchez, director of Corporate Relations at Florida Bebidas, said “Of course there is space. The beer market has great potential in Costa Rica as our consumption of beer has not even reached the average amount of countries in Latin America.”
