Costa Rican and global business and government leaders will meet next week to discuss investment opportunities in Guanacaste, Costa Rica’s northern province known for its idyllic beaches and stunning national parks, including the now active Rincon de la Viejo Volcano.

Toronto, Canada-based Colliers International, a global commercial real estate services giant will be hosting the event. This is the first time such a prominent event is held in which a broad selection of public and private experts will convene to discuss opportunities in Guanacaste.

Colliers International has an estimated 15,000 employees in more than 500 offices in 68 countries, according to company information.

Guanacaste‘s immense potential for tourism growth, and development in areas of export production and other economic activities are readily evident. The province’s rich soils, bountiful natural resources, and highly educated and young population (out of the province’s 326,953 people, 185,499 are of working age, according to the most recent census data) all lend themselves to many types of projects.

The seminar, “Guanacaste Crece” (Guanacaste is Growing), will take place Wednesday, November 1 at the Real Intercontinental Hotel in Escazú, San José.

“Measuring the province’s potential in areas such as infrastructure, human development, development projects, export, local demand, and economic activation is one of the main objectives of the seminar. We want Guanacaste to stand out in the eyes of the world,” said Randall Fernandez, general manager of Colliers International Costa Rica.

The event will feature panelists from the Government of the Republic, the Costa Rican Coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE), the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the State of the Nation research institute, Earth University, among others.

The current Costa Rican administration has invested over ₡176,000 million (over US$300 million) in development projects in this region from rural aqueducts, to roads, and improvements to the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in the province’s capital of Liberia.

Colliers provides services to commercial real estate users, owners, investors and developers. These services include consulting, corporate facilities, investment services, landlord and tenant representation, project management, urban planning, property and asset management and valuation and advisory services. The organization serves the hotel, industrial, mixed-use, office, retail and residential property sectors.

The firm, with headquarters in Toronto, Ontario, has annual revenues of over US$2.6 billion, according to the company’s latest annual report.
