Daniel Gendron, is the 52-year-old Canadian expat who recently took the position of General Manager of Costa Rican team Cartago Soccer Club.

Cartago is one of the four biggest soccer clubs in the country, behind Saprissa, Alajuela (La Liga) and Heredia, however, it has faced several financial problems that have also been influenced and have influenced their poor results on the soccer field.

The former banker who has lived and worked in several countries around the world has been living in Costa Rica for the past seven years. Gendron used to play hockey, but became familiar with soccer during the time he spent in Mexico. It was in Costa Rica where he became more interested in this sport basically because of how it is part of the country’s culture, explained the Canadian in an interview with national daily La Nacion.

Gendron, who speaks perfect Spanish, took the administrative position one month back at the request of the Board of Directors, this position is at this time temporary, but there is a strong possibility he may stay longer. Investor group 1906 Cartagines S.A. may soon take control of the Cartago soccer team and it will be up to the investor group and the shareholders to decide whether or not he stays, this decision will come November 12.
