From March 28^th through April 1^st, 2012, the Vans Pier Classic returns to Huntington Beach, California, and Tico surfer Carlos Munoz will be competing among some of the biggest names in the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP). The Vans Pier Classic has been rated a 4-star competition by the ASP, which means that Carlos will be surfing against top-notch talent competing for the $115,000 purse.

Carlos Munoz has his own Facebook fan page, where he posted this message yesterday:

“Tomorrow I will be competing on the 13^th heat of the second round, scheduled for 3:40 in the afternoon, Costa Rica time.

The second round of the Pro Men’s Division, in which Carlos is competing, can expect the following swell conditions as reported by Surfline:

• Swell/Surf: Slow in the early morning with older SSW swell mix and the first signs of new WNW swell with surf in the 2-3’ occ. 4’ range.
• WNW swell builds through the day with 3-4-5’ waves over the later afternoon and even some larger sets.
• Wind/Weather: Light/variable wind in the early morning, with building westerly wind in the afternoon 9-12 knots.

The second round will be featured as a live HD webcast from now until 4:00 PM, Pacific Standard Time. You can also follow Carlos’ progress at the Vans Pier Classic from the Facebook page of Punto Surf, a radio program that broadcasts on 104.7 Hit FM.

The Costa Rica Star has been following Carlos’ rise in the pro surfing circuit since his performance at the Reef Centroamerica Games, where Tico surfers retained their supremacy in the region. On that tournament, Carlos executed a spectacular frontside aerial maneuver often referred to as “kurupt flip”. Carlos went huge on that one to score a perfect 10 score.

In late January 2012, Carlos scored perfect barrels at the Volcom Pipeline Pro in the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. He finished 9^th at that high-profile competition.
