The Central Bank Museums included a small souvenir/gift shop two years ago, here visitors can find close to 250 articles created by Costa Ricans and representative of the country’s history and with relation to the items in exhibition at the Museums.

Jewerly, pottery pieces, glass work, leather products, are just part of the many options available.

“Each item here has a story to tell, everything has a link to a cultural manifestation. The mask for instance, refers to traditions and rituals, and the stamps incorporate the knowledge of indigenous practices of body painting”, explained Virginia Vargas, executive director of the Central Bank Museums.

Costa Rican designers have created a diverse collection of souvenirs, all reflecting the country’s history, traditions, culture or identity.

From small crafts and books, to handmade leather bags, each item is carefully and tastefully designed.

Among the artists whose work is showcased are Gabriel Boza who creates bags, purses and backpacks out of Eco leather (recycled boat sails); Dominga Lázaro from Jícaras Labradas an artisan from the indigenous territory Rey Curré who creates impressive designs out of the calabash.
