The Costa Rican Coast Guard Service intercepted a vessel carrying 324 packets of cocaine weighing close to 1 kilogram each in front of the coast of Quepos in Puntarenas.

The boat was detected the afternoon of this Monday, November 19, 80 nautical miles from Quepos, the interception was the result of the joined work of the National Coast Guard Service, the Drug Control Police and the United States Coast Guard who actually raised the alert.

When the suspects noticed the presence of the Costa Rican patrol ships they threw some packets off board and took off, the authorities had to start the chase of the boat of Ecuatorian flag.

Three men were arrested, one of last name Silva Marataypo who is 26 years-old and Guatemalan, a Colombian of last name Sánchez Vente, 28, and an Ecuatorian of surnames Montenegro Sevallo.

The Drug Control Police (PCD) proceeded to count and weight the packets of drugs, confirming a total of 324 packets weighing each close to 1 kilogram. In addition to the drugs, they also confiscated two satellite phones, three GPS, and a radio buoy
