A white van carrying 302 kilograms of cocaine and that was being escorted by another vehicle was intercepted by the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) in Jacó, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
OIJ received confidential information that alerted of the situation and coordinated a road control operation with the Municipal Police of Garabito, the Public Force and the Direction of Intelligence and Security (DIS).
“The person that called us anonymously observed a suspicious situation and provided the characteristics of the vehicle. We established surveillance points and located the vehicle and proceeded to seize the drug”, commented Geovanny Rodriguez sub-director of OIJ.
The packets of drugs were hidden in a compartment in the van, which was driven by a man of last names Lopez Chacon. The van was being escorted by another vehicle, the driver was identified with the last names Sequeira Ramirez.
Police officers also seized a 9mm gun.
Meanwhile, in the area of Los Chiles, close to the Nicaragua frontier, Public Force officers found 197 kilograms of cocaine hidden in five sacks, according to the Drug Control Police four of them contained 40 packets and the fifth one contained 37.
The drug was found in a remote location and abandoned, for this reason there were no arrests in connection to this case yet.
