The community of San Ramon in La Virgen de Sarapiqui is taking matters in their own hands to promote Eco-Tourism in the area through the creation of a new trail to the Braulio Carrillo National Park.

With the support of the San Carlos’ headquarters of the Costa Rica Technological Institute (TEC), members of the community organized and have come up with the project that will be ready by early 2019. The idea is to create an access to the National Park through the sector known as “El Ceibo”. This sector is currently is only accessed for scientific research purposes; at least two trails through the park one of them a universal trail for use by disabled population and senior citizens, and the other for the general public which will include a hanging bride over the Peje River.

The initiative will also have the support of the Rural Development Institute (Inder) and the National System of Areas of Conservation (Sinac), to build a cafeteria area, a souvenir shop. bathrooms, and the security access gate and booth.

This project will give access to national and foreign tourists to a different area of this National Park which hosts great natural diversity thanks to the different habitats found within it which go from the 50 meters above sea levels to 2700 meters above sea level; close to 6,000 species of flora, 75% of the bird species found in the country as well as different mammals, reptiles, insects and amphibians have their home in this park.
